Creation, Goals and Expectations

Bit of a dramatic title for a blog post but it's not as grandiose as it sounds I promise.

I'm not fully sure what made me want to make a website to show off my work, it would be a lot easier to just make an Instagram account (which I'll also do but that's besides the point), but making stuff is fun and I have a Bachelors in Computer Science that's gathering dust so maybe I felt like I should put it to good use.

This first post isn't going to be anything ground breaking, more explaining what I've built so far, what my plans for the future of the website are, and what you can expect from me moving forward.

So firstly, the website is pretty basic at the moment, with the Home Page, Gallery and About sections being the main three sections so far. I'll be adding a few more collections of images here and there, but it may be a bit sparse of content in between my trips. One thing I'd love to do in the future would be to have a collection of my favourite pictures I've taken and talk a little about why I like them and the history of the image.

I'm not 100% sure about the goals for the website, at the moment it's just a place for me to experiment with a bit of web design and learning how to present my work, but I'd like it to grow from that. I'll definitely be adding more gallery collections, blog posts and new pages, with the posts being a mixture of updates on things to come and more serious discussions about my work and photography as a whole (from a complete amateur mind you so look forward to that).

The end goal of the site is (eventually) setting up a small e-commerce storefront to sell some prints of my work if anyone is interested in purchasing copies of my work. I'll aim to keep the selection of products on the smaller side and prioritise selling some of my more popular images.

In terms of what you can expect from me, I'll be tinkering around on the site whenever I can and posting at least once a week (he says), I've got a fair amount to talk about. I'm also jetting off to Italy to visit Rome and Sorrento with my girlfriend (Hi Rachel :) ) at the start of July, which will give me plenty to show off after, and following this I'll aim to drag my friends back out into the Peaks to get more pictures wherever I can.

That'll do for a first post, I'll be checking the forum regularly and responding to any comments, so feel free to say how amazing my pictures are, or keep me more grounded, it's your choice.

Cheers,

Ben.
